“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be” – Maya Angelou
I love this quote because I knew from the age of two that I was not “normal.” I spent the better part of 30 years chasing the ever elusive “normal,” believing if I could find it my life would finally be (insert any word here). I slowly came to realize that I had been wasting my life chasing something that did not exist rather than living my life. So, I let go of the idea of normal and worked to discover who I really was and take control of my life. I continue to discover more and more of myself every day, I am on the right journey at last.
My gift is the ability to see the AMAZING in my clients and help them discover it so that they can take control of their lives and live authentically. It doesn’t matter if you are 2 or 90 or anywhere in between, you are amazing, and you have the most wonderful journey ahead of you.
My formal education consists of a Bachelors in Applied Behavioral Science and a Masters in Community Counseling, both from National Louis University. I graduated with my master’s just 3 months before my 50th birthday. I enjoy working with every age, individuals, family and couples. My real education comes from a life of experiences, many of them like those my clients have experienced. If I haven’t walked in your exact shoes, I’ve walked in ones similar enough or have witnessed people who have, I can meet you where you are and walk along side you in your journey of self-discovery. My clinical skills include everything from low-self esteem to trauma to psychosis. I primarily use Trauma Informed and Cognitive Behavior Techniques, and will use an integrated approach to use whatever technique is going to work best for the client.
In my personal life I cherish my daughter and son-in-law and the baby they will soon have, as well as my grand-pets, two cats and a dog. I am very active in my church and am blessed to have a family there that is full of grace and free of judgement. I also enjoy strength training and walking and learning.
